Lobsters liberated by Buddhist intervention
GLOUCESTER, Mass (Reuters) - Instead of plunging headfirst to their death in a pot of boiling water, 534 live lobsters escaped the dinner plate and belly flopped to freedom into the dark waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
A group of Tibetan Buddhists flanked the sides of a whale-watching boat at dusk on Wednesday, sprayed the lobsters with blessed water, clipped the bands binding their dangerous claws and released them one by one into the deep water below.

NASA poised to launch spacecraft to Jupiter
NASA is poised to launch on Friday a billion dollar solar-powered spacecraft called Juno on a five-year journey to Jupiter in search of what makes up the solar system's biggest planet.
The unmanned satellite observatory is set to propel into space aboard a 197-foot (60-meter) tall rocket, blasting off from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida at 11:34 am (1534 GMT).

Pentagon steps up campaign against more defense cuts
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warned against a "devastating" second round of defense cuts on Thursday as the Pentagon stepped up its campaign to convince Congress to look elsewhere for savings as it works to trim the $1.4 trillion deficit.
Panetta, at his first Pentagon news conference, said the initial $350 billion cut in security spending signed into law this week was tough but manageable. He urged Congress to raise revenues or look at cutting other areas of the budget before taking anything more from defense.

The NCAA has told Ohio State that it won't face the most severe charges possible in the memorabilia-for-cash and tattoos scandal that cost football coach Jim Tressel his job.

South Korea fines Apple $2,855 over location data
SEOUL (Reuters) - Apple Inc's South Korean unit has been fined 3 million won ($2,855) by the country's communications regulator after the iPhone and iPad maker collected location data from users without proper authorization.
The fine, though small, marks the first time Apple has been punished by a regulator over the controversial location data collection which has sparked criticism in the United States and elsewhere.
